On Friday July 23rd in Little Rock, at our Division Meeting, the second award given out was The Virginia Sowell Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Field – presented to a member of the division who has supported professional practice through his or her work in the field.
- The award went to Cyral Miller. Amy Parker, our chair-elect, read her nomination and gave the award to her fellow Texan.
- I nominate Cyral Miller, who is the Outreach Director for Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired (TSBVI) and long time coordinator of the Deaf-Blind Project for the award. Cyral has been an advocate for alternate paths to literacy for many years. She has also lead some great training on self-determination. She is a mentor and supporter to many leaders in the field like: Robbie Blaha and Craig Axelrod.
Check back soon. In our next posts we’ll be highlighting some of the past award winners.
